SPACECRAFT PORTAL ACADEMY

About Spacecraft Portal Academy

WELCOME to the SPACECRAFT PORTAL ACADEMY (shortly also named as SPACECRAFT ACADEMY or SPA)! I'm Admiral Falcon (a.k.a. Darth Falcon or Emperor Falcon for somebody of you...). The Academy is your education and training center for adding skills and experience while acting with VGA Planets. The versions 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0 are well-known numbers of the combat and/or role-play areas. In SPA you will learn to get skill and experience in starting a given scenario, handling with alliances and/or teams, having a good diplomacy, how to backstab another race - and (!) - how to detect an backstabber very early.

The good old-known Planeteer Academy (running for up to 3 seasons now) has been integrated into the SPA. This must be done because the staff of SPA will play and help in SPA scenarios (in Planeteer Academy there wasn't any help from the staff). Every experienced player can join the staff for taking part in educating VGAP and training player's skills. What is an experienced player? Well, an experienced player should be able to work in a team and to help other players getting new or good skills in playing VGAP. He/she should be competent and have social skills (is not a must have...). Also an experienced player will know how to play the most standard races and (optionally) a few 3rd-party races. For proving experience I'll accept a rank (at my site) of an Lieutanent Commander or higher. It doesn't matter how many games a player has won (or lost... ;))) ). But it is possible to be a member of my staff without the needed ranking when I know about the good skills of a player (see above).

So SPA is both education and training center from now. SPA is center for different scenarios. I - and/or somebody of my experienced staff - can (/will?) teach you in a given scenario. The training center is open to beginner even to moderate players of you - may be up to veteran/master level. Scenarios may be made i.e. just for beginners (with a low learning curve), for moderate players (with a steeper learning curve), or just for veterans/masters (for proving their skills). Also scenarios can handle different situations. Some people like themes like Star Trek (from TV/movies), Star Wars (from movies), Battlestar Galactica (from TV/movies), Stargate (from TV/movies) etc. There is a long list of sci-fi themes... Well, it is possible to set up a scenario which a group of players would like. They can tell me about their desire and I will help in creating a nice scenario. Also the SPA can set up a scenario for players. So they have just only to join it. These scenarios can be very easy (i.e. establishing contact to other races with strange behavior), moderate (i.e. diplomacy and negotions with enemies) or very difficulty (i.e. "Kobayashi Maru" test with very strange options to solve). Just let me know about your desire...

Scenarios of version 3.0 are only DOS games which are made for the better experienced DOS players (are there some of these old veterans still existing, yet?). Version 3.5 will be the main scenario type (mostly for WinPlan 3.5 - with support for VPA or without VPA option). At last but not least there is the upcoming version 4 scenario type (Planets 4!). This one is very nice for playing VGAP while using SPA. It will be the "mainstream" in the future at this site.

The mostly used goal of a scenario will be "open end". This happens because the used PHCc program can't help to meet special goals of a game. PHCc is good enough when adding scores and invasion points. But there is no option for "last player/team still alive" or just "meet condition xyz". So I define games with the "open end" goal when using the SPA. The host master (mostly I) will check if a a game meets a given special goal. In team games also the team players will check via scores and "capture the flag" options if the goal of a game is met. The number of players which will get an award for winning is optionally. The players (even to the host master) can define before a game starts how many players can win the game. But this depends on the scenario type. Also it is okay that the host master (or members of his staff) - when playing in a given scenario - never gets an award. The players can choose if the host master (or members of his staff) can win a scenario, too. This is - as many other things - a thing for voting.

The SPA will also announce a nice VGAP tournament when the time has come. It is the biggest honour to compete with other experienced players here at this site while the SPA take control over the tournament. In the tournament the SPA will give spezial awards to those players which are worthy enough to get them. It is very important to meet one or more goals in the last stand (last stage of the tournament). The awards are secret at the moment. The scenario type is secret, too. It is planned to use Host 3.22.047, PHost 3.2.3.4 and Host 4.000.193 (or higher) without common add-ons and cplayers.

So here is the info about SPACECRAFT PORTAL ACADEMY in shortly terms:
  • SPA replaces the old-known "Planeteer Academy"
  • SPA is controlled by Admiral Falcon
  • the staff of SPA can educate and train players even like Admiral Falcon
  • a staff member must be experienced in VGAP, team-able, helpful, competent, having social skill, should have experience with most standard races and a few 3rd-party races, a ranking of a Lieutanent Commander or higher (just an option for proof)
  • SPA offers education and training even to special scenarios
  • levels are from beginner to moderate - and up to veteran/master
  • scenarios may be created like in well-known themes from TV/movies
  • a group of player can create their own scenario game type
  • scenarios supported for VGA Planets 3.0, WinPlan 3.5 and Planets 4
  • goal of a game is mostly "open end" depending on a given scenario
  • host master (or members of his staff) can't win a scenario when playing in it (only players can decide for an award for the staff)
  • SPA will anounce a tournament for honour with new awards
